Smart Calculator does not respond to keyboard

I'm using a Gateway LX6200-01 w/ Vista. I've downloaded and purchased the Smart calculator however, it does not respond to my ketboard strokes. Therefore, I can't write equations with variales in them. What must I do to get calculator to recognize my keyboard?

Spider451, before typing in the calculator, make sure you use your mouse to click on the calculator text box (click on the one highlighted in yellow) and then start typing the math expression.

Let me know if you're still have issues with this.
